The joy I feel from taking a class and deepening my knowledge of myself and my body, inspires me to give that gift to others.

How would you describe your class to a beginner? To an advanced practitioner?

While highlighting the proper alignment and recruitment of the deepest layer of muscles, I aim to work the body from the inside out. In addition to strengthening all layers of the abdominal muscles, students will enjoy a full body challenge, working the muscles that stabilize the shoulder, hip and spine, all while staying true to proper biomechanics. The result is true strength and fitness, helping you live, work and play in your best body!

  • Full Apparatus Certified, Studio 2A, 2004

My teaching inspiration:

As a mat class student myself in 2001, I was transformed by the Pilates regime. The level of strength and awareness I gained in such a short time inspired me to delve deeper into my personal practice which later led to schooling and a decade of teaching.

How would you describe your class to a beginner? To an advanced practitioner?

My classes at Park Slope Yoga have transformed and evolved in so many ways over the last 8 years. They have always been and will remain fast-paced, with challenging choreography and a strong base in fundamentals of Pilates movement. I also add a cohesive emphasis on anatomy, making it a great starter class as well as a refresher for advanced students.

My name: Kristine
I teach: Pilates

Trainings & Certifications:

  • Pilates Mat Certifications, Kinected (The Kane School)

My teaching inspiration:

I came to Pilates through a serious injury many years ago. I stilll stand by the Pilates technique as a healing and transformative practice. The strength I have found through Pilates transfers to many mediums of exercise and movement.

How would you describe your class to a beginner? To an advanced practitioner?

My class is friendly to both the beginner and advanced student. I focus a lot on placement of exercises so we can get the most out of each movement. For beginners, I always offer modifications of the exercises. and ease into more advanced options. I do like to challenge more experienced students to move closer to their edge. Overall, I like to keep a steady pace and want each person to feel as if they have worked to their fullest potential in the class.

Movement heals!

How would you describe your class to a beginner? To an advanced practitioner?

With beginners I focus on establishing an awareness of connection to the abdominal scoop, drawing your naval in and up towards your spine and head. As students become more familiar with the work and build stamina, complexity is added to the choreography and the introduction to more ideas and challenges.

For more advanced students, who work in more challenging planes of movement, the exploration of certain questions become more relevant: How can you maintain your core support and control while expanding out in all directions, away from your center? Can we layer more ideas without losing all that’s come before? Are you using your breath to your advantage?
